Samsung and Virgin Media O2 ready to roll up their sleeves for 4G and 5G trials – Samsung Global Newsroom

Companies will demonstrate the capacity and performance of Samsung network solutions on the Virgin Media O2 business network.

Samsung Electronics today announced that the company will conduct 4G and 5G trials with Virgin Media O2. During testing, the two companies will verify the capacity and performance of Samsung’s 4G and 5G network solutions in Virgin Media O2’s commercial network. The trial will also assess interoperability between Samsung’s latest solutions and Virgin Media O2’s 2G and 3G legacy networks.

Virgin Media O2, which launched in June 2021, is a joint venture between Liberty Global and Telefónica in the UK. digital services, applications and solutions to tens of thousands of UK businesses and public sector organizations.

For the trial, Samsung will provide its advanced solutions which include its baseband unit, 5G Massive MIMO radios, as well as 4G radios on the low and medium band spectra, while being Open RAN compatible with some configuration changes and additional support in the future. The company’s latest baseband unit delivers enhanced performance with peak capacity and throughput, while supporting 4G and 5G technologies in a single unit. In addition, Samsung’s 5G Massive MIMO radios have a slim and light design, which ensures easy and fast installation for operators, as well as increased coverage and data speeds for an enhanced 5G user experience.
