Google's new 5G Pixel 6 ad celebrates

Forgotten during the unveiling of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in October was a social media post by Google exclaimed that the new Android phones were “the official phones of NBA fans.” Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo (the “Greek Freak”) has been called “the new face of Google # Pixel6”. He was pictured with the Cloudy White Pixel 6 Pro and in a selfie taken by the phone.
Today, Christmas Day, Google released a new perfectly timed ad for the traditional NBA Christmas Day triple header on ABC-TV. Titled “Google Pixel 6-For All The Fans,” the 60-second spot is sure to be seen during all three games as Google continues to market its latest Android flagships.

The Pixel 6 is the “Official Phone for NBA Fans”

The ad begins by showing the celebration the city of Milwaukee hosted after the Bucks won their second title last year, 30 years after winning their first championship with a young Lew Alcindor (now, of course, Kareem Abdul -Jabbar). So the TV commercial calls out to Bucks fans, Suns fans, and those in Serbia who became Nuggets fans because of Nikola Jokic of Denver, the reigning NBA MVP.

Showcasing one of the most popular features of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google appealed to one of the greatest of all time. Who else would Google turn to to promote Magic Eraser than Magic Johnson? This feature, which is one of the many AI / ML-driven magic that Google has installed in the Pixel (mainly thanks to the Tensor chip developed in-house) allows the user to remove people and unwanted elements from photographs. .

To show how Magic Eraser works, the ad shows three female Miami Heat fans standing with a fan from another team posing in the background. But thanks to the Magic Eraser, the photobomber has been erased from photography.

Other fans are seen in the ad, including a Knicks fan uttering the team’s “Bing Bong” slogan and a Brooklyn Nets fan buying a Kevin Durant jersey is referred to as a bandwagon fan. That might be true given that the team has the best record in the Eastern Conference led by Durant’s game MVP.

Yes, NBA fans of all types are celebrated in this ad. And with the Pixel 6-series Titan M security chip providing “defense,” the video compares the chip’s privacy protection to rejected shots (aka “blocks”) in the NBA. “There are so many ways to love the NBA,” Google says, “and the Pixel 6 is designed for them all.”

Current rumor calls for Google to add Face Unlock to the Pixel 6 Pro via a future Pixel quarterly feature update

While it almost seems like there is a different issue with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro every day, all of them can be fixed with a software update. And frankly, many Pixel buyers were familiar with the line’s history. Almost all full-sized Pixels suffered from a few bugs right after release, and Google was able to fix the ones they could while swapping out those with a sticky screen (seen on the Pixel 2 line) for a new unit.

The only complaint that we see popping up time and time again is the sluggishness of the optical fingerprint scanner in the display. Google has already sent a software update to improve the user experience, but for some there has been no improvement. It’s possible that Google has a huge late-night holiday giveaway for Pixel 6 Pro users that will make it easier for them to unlock their phones.

As we mentioned earlier this month, the code found in the beta of Android 12L hints at a future update that would bring Face Unlock to the Pro version of the new Pixel 6 line. maybe Google included Face Unlock with the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL in 2017. The feature could be included in a future Pixel feature, with the next slated for March.
