Freeport and Verizon officials are working to fix cell service issues in the borough

Freeport officials are working with Verizon to resolve possible issues during phone calls.

Borough Fire Marshal Michael Greiser said on Tuesday evening that cell service was “unreliable” in some parts of the borough, especially for Verizon Wireless customers or those with an operator who is calling. connects to their turns.

Greiser said the company had been made aware of the issue and it was not clear when the issue could be fixed.

“We are trying to find a solution,” he said. “(We) want to remind residents who only have a cell phone for communication that they may have difficulty dialing in an emergency. The fire station located at 400 Market Street is one way to report an emergency if you cannot dial at this time. We ask that you ask a neighbor for help by dialing 911 first if you cannot call from your home.

Greiser also recommended that people who can connect to home Wi-Fi turn on Wi-Fi calling on their cellular device.

The service issue was discovered on Tuesday afternoon.

Grieser said he spoke with firefighters as well as Armstrong County 911 and Verizon Wireless, efforts to determine this was a Verizon issue.

“We found that around the borough there were certainly areas where calls were dropped or there was no service at all,” he said. and in the best interest of public safety.

Verizon did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
